How to Make Your Discord Server Better and Aesthetic
Active servers are easy to navigate and clean! Nobody likes to chat in a server that isn’t appealing. The key to making your Discord Server appealing is to focus on channels, roles, and categories.
Emojis:
If you decide to use emoji in your channels, roles, and/or categories, I’d highly recommend using emojipedia.com. It’s a website that has a fully catalog of emojis. Here are some of my favorite ones: 🍒🌸🌺💮.
Channels:
Community Server Channels:
Two Channel Options:
- “#💬・chat”
- “#💬︱chat”
As it can be seen, having the nice neat emoji along with the dot/line divider creates a really nice separator for your Discord channels! I’d highly recommend using this. If you want a more professional feel, then don’t use the emojis and dividers, and just keep sweet and short channel names as such:
- #general
- #bots
- #images
Having multiple words in your Discord channels can get a little long and hard to read. I’d suggest keeping them short and concise. Here are two of my servers that have a neat layout. Feel free to check them out!

Roles:
Roles are arguably as important as your channels. Not only do you need appealing role names, but also nice role colors! Here’s a guide to choosing staff role names for a general community server:
- Administrator
- Senior Staff
- Moderator
- Trainee Mod
If your server is a bit of fun, and you’re looking for something jazzy, feel free to base it off of something a little less serious:
- President
- Vice President
- General
- Secretary
- Foreign Minister
Pro-Tip: A lot of servers hoist their bot role higher than normal members. This is bad! Oftentimes, having 13 bots block your members list can be a turn-off for members! Instead, give all your members a ‘Members’ role which is hoisted above the bots role. If you have a couple important bots/custom bot for your server, feel free to keep those hoisted… just don’t hoist the big bots role that you might have ;)
Role Organization:
If you do end up having a huge server one day, role management can be really difficult! Having hundreds of roles really does make Discord slow. It can be super hard to drag roles around, and figure them out. That’s why it’s important to organize your roles!
You can use these role dividers in your role list so it’s easier for your staff to manage things.
▬▬ ADMIN ▬▬
Administrator
Co-Owner
▬▬▬ MOD ▬▬▬
Senior Moderator
Trainee Moderator
▬▬ OTHER ▬▬
Friend
Event Winner
This sort of structure can go a long way years down the road!
Role Colors:
Here’s a guide to role colors, made by Scraas#0001 in the Owners Hub community. As a Discord server owner, you’ll love Owners Hub, check them out (discord.gg/vr8NXm2MYs)!

When choosing role colors, be sure to stick to some form of a theme. Using random colors for random roles may look a bit messy. Nonetheless, be sure to experiment with it! Try things out, and have fun with it. If you like it, there’s a good chance your members will too. Check with friends and your staff team as needed.
Another option for role colors you can consider is using a pastel theme. Pastel colors pop really well on Discord’s Dark Theme:

Categories:
The last bit are categories. Categories contain your server’s channels. Categories are not as important as roles and channels. However, they can contribute to server aesthetic.
Pro-Tip: Use the ServerStats bot to make your main chat’s category an interactive number that changes whenever someone joins the server! Use the command “s/counter create” → “members” → “category”. This will tell the bot to create a category with a number that automatically updates when someone joins. Our server’s category name is “Lobby ・ 15662 members”.
Here’s a nice template for your server’s categories. Feel free to add emojis or add more:
▬▬▬ WELCOME ▬▬▬
▬▬▬ NEWS ▬▬▬
▬▬▬ GENERAL ▬▬▬
▬▬▬ GAMES ▬▬▬
Using the dash bars that connect can make your categories look very organized!
Server Logos:
Having a nice looking server logo is pretty important. Even if it’s just a static image, it can still look nice. For instance, I have two servers that just have a static server icon even though they are level 2 or 3 boosted.
Suggestion 1: Hold a logo contest in your server and reward the winner with a role or some other prize. Discord Nitro Classic ($4.99) can be a good incentive. I’ve used this technique myself, and have given out lots of Nitros & fun roles!
Suggestion 2: Hire someone on Fiverr. To get a good logo, you’ll usually need to pay around $10-$15 which is why (if you have a large enough server) hosting a logo contest can be particular effective.
